Worried about your elderly parents? Here’s what to look for and how to start the conversation

Are you worried about your elderly parents or wondering if they can safely continue living as they are? They may have been doing quite well, but now you’re noticing changes, such as forgetfulness, repeating the same questions, or difficulty with everyday tasks like driving, maintaining the house, navigating the stairs, or paying bills.

Sometimes, older parents may seem more withdrawn or start to exhibit unusual behaviors, such as blaming others for moving or stealing things, or even acting paranoid.

When families notice these changes, it’s often hard to know what to do next. How do you determine if they really need help? What type of support would be best? And how do you address these concerns if they’re unresponsive or upset when you bring it up?
